Platelet activation and aggregation after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
BMC Neurology May 05, 2018
Perez P, et al. - Experts evaluated the platelet activation and aggregation pathways in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) patients who underwent endovascular treatment. They examined GpIIbIIIa and P-selectin expression, as well as aggregation rate in the presence of agonists via 2 blood samples taken in the early days after bleeding and during the period at risk of vasospasm. Prolonged increases in activation and aggregation was illustrated by the aSAH platelets. In order to reduce the risk of clotting and ischemic events in this context, therapies targeting the ADP pathway could be useful among patients requiring multiple endovascular procedures.
