Plasmacytoid variant urothelial carcinoma of the bladder: Effect of radical cystectomy and chemotherapy in non-metastatic and metastatic patients
World Journal of Urology Feb 01, 2022
Focusing on plasmacytoid (PCV) bladder cancer patients, researchers herein investigated how radical cystectomy (RC) and chemotherapy affect non-metastatic (T 2–4N0–3M0), as well as metastatic (TanyNanyM1) subgroups.
A total of 332 PCV patients with muscle-invasive disease or higher (≥ T2N0M0) were identified by used the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database (2000–2016).
In non-metastatic PCV patients, lower cancer-specific mortality (CSM) was recorded in correlation with receiving RC, however, no effect of chemotherapy was evident.
Conversely, metastatic PCV patients had statistically significantly lower CSM in correlation with both chemotherapy and RC.
