Plasma total-tau as a biomarker of stroke risk in the community

Pase MP, Himali JJ, Aparicio HJ, et al. - Because higher plasma total-tau level are correlated with incident dementia, but its connection with stroke risk is unknown, researchers assessed plasma total-tau level as a biomarker of stroke risk in 2,794 Framingham Heart Study participants. According to this prospective community-based study, individuals with total-tau plasma levels in the top quintile compared with the bottom four had an increased risk of incident stroke over a mean follow-up of 8.3 years—following adjustments for age, sex, and stroke risk factors.
