Plasma levels of homocysteine is associated with liver fibrosis in health check-up population
International Journal of General Medicine Sep 07, 2021
Lv D, Wang Z, Ji S, et al. - The results showed that among different stages of liver fibrosis (LF), the plasma homocysteine (Hcy) concentration was substantially different. According to the findings, the higher the plasma Hcy concentration, the more evident was the degree of LF.
A considerable difference was observed (p < 0.001 unless specified) in body mass index, gender, age, Hcy, the levels of alanine transaminase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT; P = 0.012), triglycerides (TG; P = 0.006), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, and platelet count during different stages of LF.
A strong relationship was found between the plasma Hcy concentration and the serum biomarkers of LF (P < 0.001) and the values of liver stiffness measurement (P < 0.001).
