Plasma galectin-3 concentrations in patients with primary aldosteronism
Journal of Hypertension Aug 09, 2017
van den Berg TNA (Danielle), et al. – In this current study, plasma galectin-3 (Gal-3) concentrations were compared in patients with primary aldosteronism and in patients with essential hypertension (EHT) and, its reversibility after adrenalectomy was assessed. Findings demonstrated that compared with patients with EHT, patients with primary aldosteronism did not exhibit elevated plasma Gal–3 concentrations and no decline in levels after adrenalectomy. These outcomes were in contrast to previous studies and did not support a pathophysiological role of plasma Gal–3 in the increased cardiovascular risk in patients with primary aldosteronism.
