Plasma fibroblast growth factor 21 is associated with severity of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes

Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Mar 15, 2019

Barb D, et al. - In patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), researchers ascertained whether higher plasma FGF21 is correlated with worse steatohepatitis on liver biopsy. According to findings in this cross-sectional study, plasma FGF21 in patients with NASH correlated with the severity of steatohepatitis, especially fibrosis. FGF21 measurement may help to identify patients with the highest risk of progression of the disease.
