Planned oocyte cryopreservation (planned OC): Systematic review and meta‐analysis of cost‐efficiency and patients’ perspective
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nov 11, 2020
Weizman NF, Baram S, Montbriand J, et al. - As advancement in vitrification techniques has facilitated planned oocyte cryopreservation (‘Planned OC’), researchers here examined the cost‐efficiency and utilization of planned OC, as well as patients’ perspectives on the process. Conducting a systematic search in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Database and PsychINFO, 12,545 records were identified; of these, 43 were included. Findings suggest cost‐efficiency of planned OC at 35 assuming 60% utilization; and at 37 assuming utilizing donor sperm when necessary. Currently, up to 15% utilization of banked‐oocytes is reported within 22–58 months. Overall outcomes support the adequacy of planned OC for preserving fertility. However, under‐utilization leading to reduced cost‐efficiency was noted because of knowledge gaps.
