Placental growth factor and the risk of adverse neonatal and maternal outcomes
Obstetrics and Gynecology Feb 28, 2020
Parchem JG, et al. - In this prospective, multicenter, observational study, researchers ascertained if abnormal plasma placental growth factor (PlGF) level was correlated with adverse neonatal and maternal outcomes. Women with suspected preeclampsia were included in this analysis. Participants in the study were women (n = 1,112) age 18–45 years with a singleton pregnancy between 20 and 41 weeks of gestation. Data reported that plasma PlGF was low in 742 and very low in 353 women. According to this secondary analysis of the Preeclampsia Triage by Rapid Assay Trial, those with abnormal PlGF are significantly more likely to experience adverse neonatal and maternal outcomes among the women being evaluated for preeclampsia. Such results occur rarely when the PlGF is normal. These outcomes indicate that PlGF could be useful to women with suspected preeclampsia for risk stratification.
