Clinical Endocrinology Oct 29, 2020
Shareef M, Nasrallah MP, AlArab N, et al. - Researchers investigated the pediatric population and its different age subgroups for the incidence of pituitary incidentalomas as well as for the characteristics of these lesions. In addition, they sought to provide a perspective on the management and follow‐up of these patients. Performing retrospective study of MRI of children aged 18 years or below who underwent MRI with sellar region within their field of view, they identified that in the pediatric population, incidental pituitary lesions are relatively infrequent and increases with age. The cohort had pituitary incidentaloma incidence of 22 per 1,000 patients with female predisposition ( 64.5%) and a mean age of 11 ± 6 years. The most common incidentally encountered pituitary lesion was Rathke cleft cyst, followed by cystic pituitary lesions and microadenomas.
