Pereira F, et al. - This trial was pursued in order to compare the efficacy of varying concentrations of topical lidocaine gel and standard subconjunctival anesthesia in pterygium surgery. The use of lidocaine gel at concentrations of 2% and 5% and subconjunctival injection of lidocaine were discovered to be equally effective in reducing intraoperative and postoperative pain. Substantially less pain was noted during the initial administration of the anesthetic agents.
