Pigmented villonodular synovitis does not influence the outcomes following cruciate-retaining total knee arthroplasty: A case-control study with minimum 5-year follow-up
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Sep 11, 2020
Lin W, Dai Y, Niu J, et al. - In this study, the middle-term follow-up outcomes of cruciate-retaining (CR) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were explored in patients with pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS). Researchers performed a retrospective study in 17 patients with PVNS who had undergone CR TKA as PVNS group between January 2012 and December 2014. They also selected 68 individuals with osteoarthritis who had undergone CR TKA (control group) for comparison during this period. This research illustrated that the function of patients with PVNS who had undergone CR TKA had been significantly improved, and the survival rate of implants in these patients was similar to the patients with OA. The outcomes reveal that the patients with PVNS who had undergone CR TKA might be an achievable option. Nevertheless, these individuals should pay more attention to the occurrence of postoperative stiffness complications.
