Wang Q, Huang H, Zhao N, et al. - Experts examined data from a population-based case-control study to investigate the association between thyroid cancer risk and consumption of phytoestrogens (PEs) involving 387 histologically-confirmed thyroid cancer cases and 433 population-based controls. They noted that the risk of thyroid cancer, especially microcarcinomas, was raised by high coumestrol consumption whilst moderate amounts of genistein consumption seemed to be protective for women with thyroid macrocarcinomas.
