Physician prediction of 1-year mortality in the cardiac catheterization laboratory: Comparison to a validated risk score
Coronary Artery Disease Jul 30, 2021
Sarathy K, Jung RG, Simard T, et al. - Since physician perception of procedural risk as well as clinical outcome can impact revascularization decision making, researchers here performed a comparison between a validated risk score [the New York State Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Reporting System (NYPCIRS) score] and physician prediction (PP) of 1-year mortality based on clinical impression at the time of invasive angiography. Per findings, PP seemed to be especially specific as well as precise for mortality prediction relative to the NYPCIRS though it lacked sensitivity. An improvement in the c-statistic and diagnostic yield was achieved with the combination of PP with NYPCIRS. Overall, an improved diagnostic accuracy of mortality prediction was shown to be conferred by the use of PP with an objective risk score.
