Physician and patient preferences for dosing options in migraine prevention
The Journal of Headache and Pain May 15, 2019
Cowan R, et al. - Among adults with migraine, researchers examined how flexible dosing possibilities influence acceptance of and adherence to a new migraine preventive therapy class. In this observational study, two 20-minute online surveys were completed: one by 400 physicians currently treating adult patients with migraine and the other by 417 adults with migraine. Participants were presented with either only monthly, only quarterly, or a choice of both as dosing options for a new migraine medication. An increase in the proportion of patients receiving the new medication would occur when both dosing options are available. As this may benefit patients with any migraine severity, patients could choose their preferred therapy based on their individual needs. This may, in turn, raise the likelihood of patients receiving and being adherent to the new migraine preventive therapy class.
