Physical health-related quality of life among older adults with personality disorders
Aging and Mental Health Jun 29, 2019
Holzer KJ, et al. - Researchers examined how personality disorders (PDs) are associated with physical health-related quality of life (PHRQoL) in adults over the age of 50 via data for 16,884 adults ages 50 and older from the 2001–2002 National Epidemiological Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions. Findings revealed statistically significant negative associations of all PDs (except histrionic and avoidant PD) with PHRQoL scores. This suggests the possibility of lower PHRQoL among respondents diagnosed with PDs vs those without PDs, after controlling for sociodemographic characteristics. However, this association did not appear to be a causal association. Type of PD was identified as influencing the strength of the relationship between PDs and PHRQoL.
