Physical examination for men and women with urological chronic pelvic pain syndromes: A Mapp network study
Urology Apr 05, 2018
Yang CC, et al. - The feasibility of implementing a standardized, clinically relevant genitourinary examination for both men and women with chronic pelvic pain syndromes (UCPPS) was investigated. Researchers also identified the physical examination findings characteristic of UCPPS. They noted that for the assessment of men and women during evaluation for UCPPS, the extended genitourinary examination was an easily administered addition. For optimal treatment, physical findings could help to better categorize UCPPS patients into clinically relevant subgroups. In the pelvic floor musculature, specific areas of tenderness were seen. Compared to the healthy controls, cases were more likely to report tenderness in multiple areas, including suprapubic, symphysis pubis, and posterior superior iliac spine, and on bimanual examination.
