Physical activity is associated with improved bone health in children with inflammatory bowel disease
Clinical Nutrition Jul 31, 2019
Vanhelst J, Vidal F, Ley D, et al. - In this investigation, researchers explored the connection between physical activity (PA) and bone mineral density (BMD) in children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), as well as evaluated the link between PA and quality of life. The study sample consisted of 84 IBD pediatric patients. According to the findings, children with osteopenia and osteoporosis accounted for 51% and 4% respectively. No association was found between time spent in moderate-to-vigorous PA and total PA, and total quality of life score. In children with IBD, PA is probably associated with improved bone health. Intervention studies in pediatric patients with IBD that investigate a causal relationship between PA and BMD are warranted.
