Physical activity in children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
Pediatric Pulmonology Sep 07, 2020
Puppo H, Torres‐Castro R, Vasconcello‐Castillo L, et al. - Given that exercise and physical activity (PA) are important components of the care of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, researchers conducted this systematic review and meta‐analysis to assess the level of PA in children and adolescents with CF. The risk of bias of the included studies was evaluated with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's risk‐of‐bias tool. Of the 1,535 reports returned by the initial search, the synthesis of the data included 20 papers that focused on 785 patients. Compared with controls, children and adolescents with CF have a similar moderate‐to‐vigorous PA and sedentary time. There are several choices for evaluating PA in this population, both subjective and objective. Optimal tool selection should allow more reliable outcomes.
