Physical activity and incident dementia in older Japanese adults: The Okayama Study
International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry May 08, 2019
Liu Y, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study in Okayama City, Japan, examining the influence of regular physical activity on the risk of incident dementia. They followed 51,477 older Japanese adults from 2008 to 2014, and using a health checkup questionnaire, regular physical activity was measured. The Dementia Scale of long-term care insurance was used as a measure of incident dementia. Outcomes suggest a link between the possible reduction of incident dementia risk in older Japanese adults and regular physical activity, though not in females who achieved physical activity every day.
