Physical activity and adiposity in preschool children: The Barwon Infant Study

Bell LA, Vuillermin P, Timperio A, et al. - More rigorous physical activity as measured by an accelerometer was linked to lower body fat in a cohort of preschool-aged children.

  • In total, 450 candidates (n = 450) had valid data.

  • There was evidence of relationships between physical activity and adiposity: each additional hour of LVPA was correlated with 0.6% higher body fat; ≥ 1-min bouts of LPA was related to 1.0% higher body fat; each additional hour of MVPA was linked to −0.8% less body fat; and ≥ 1-min bouts of MVPA was linked to −1.3% body fat.
