Phyllodes tumor of the breast: Diagnosis, management and outcome during a 10-year experience

Ditsatham C, Chongruksut W. - In this retrospective review, researchers examined cases of phyllodes tumor of the breast managed surgically, to unveil patient features, imaging characteristic findings, surgical treatment and outcome of phyllodes tumor. Overall, 188 phyllodes tumor patients (average age 35.6 years) were analyzed. On imaging, 112 cases had lobulated shaped tumor, 37 cases had oval-shape, 8 cases had round shape, and 5 cases had irregular shape. A benign phyllodes tumor was the most frequent. The standard procedure for treatment is surgical management. Removal of the tumor with a free margin, via surgical treatment, was found to be acceptable with no recurrence difference vs a wider margin. The two highest risk factors for recurrence were younger age and malignant phyllodes tumor.
