Phenotypes determined by cluster analysis and their survival in the prospective EUSTAR cohort of patients with systemic sclerosis
Arthritis & Rheumatology Apr 13, 2019
Sobanski V, et al. - Investigators performed a cluster analysis to identify and describe homogeneous phenotypes without any a priori and also to examine survival among patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). They noted the resemblance of a few groups with usual dcSSc or lcSSc prototypes, but rest presented individual characteristics like a majority of lcSSc with a high rate of visceral damage and antitopoisomerase antibodies. They suggested focussing on organ damage and antibody profile when individuating homogeneous groups of subjects with distinguished prognosis. They noticed that restricting the subsets of SSc cases only to the cutaneous involvement might not achieve the complete heterogeneity of the disease.
