Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics of intravenous dexmedetomidine in morbidly obese patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery
Journal of Anesthesia Aug 25, 2017
Xu B, et al. – Exploration of the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of dexmedetomidine in morbidly obese laparoscopic surgery patients, was the goal of the present study. Compared with normal weight patients, a marked difference was seen in the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of dexmedetomidine in morbidly obese patients. Furthermore, in morbidly obese versus normal weight patients, the reported level of sedation was markedly deeper, and oxygen saturation was significantly lower, possibly due to higher plasma concentration after infusion of 1.0 µg/kg.
