Personal protective equipment availability and usage amongst pediatric otorhinolaryngologists during the COVID-19 pandemic: An international survey
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Sep 16, 2020
Kim DH, Chadha NK, Nguyen LHP, et al. - Researchers created and administered a survey of 13 questions to a group of global pediatric otolaryngology specialists in order to ascertain their usage and access to personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey collected information on: basic demographics of practice, types of PPE used for procedures of varying aerosolization risk, access to positive air-purifying respirator (PAPR) and patient testing for SARS-CoV-2. They obtained 96 responses from 17 different countries. Analysis revealed use of N95 and some form of face covering (eg goggles, face shields) by most pediatric otolaryngologists when dealing with patients with COVID-19 positive status. Use of positive air-purifying respirator (PAPR) was reported in situations of high aerosolization risk. Screening of all patients prior to procedures in the operating room is reported by the majority of respondents.
