Persistent respiratory effort after adenotonsillectomy in children with sleep-disordered breathing
The Laryngoscope Aug 25, 2017
Martinot JB, et al. – Here the clinicians presented the hypothesis that mandibular movement (MMas) indices would decrease in parallel of polysomnography (PSG) indices and that children with persistent respiratory effort (RE) more reliably could be identified with MMas. They concluded that adenotonsillectomy significantly reduced apneaÂhypopnea index (AHI). However, in a significant proportion of children, persistent RE–related arousals (RERA) were apparent and this was revealed by the remaining abnormal MMas pattern. Thus, with the aid of MMas, follow–up of children after AT could be readily accomplished to identify persistent RE.
