Persistent hematuria and kidney disease progression in IgA nephropathy: A cohort study
American Journal of Kidney Diseases Mar 24, 2020
Yu GZ, Guo L, Dong JF, et al. - Researchers undertook this retrospective cohort analysis to assess the link between hematuria and progression of immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) in a sample of 1,333 patients with IgAN managed at a Chinese referral hospital. The participants were observed for a median duration of 45 months. Findings revealed an independent link between the level of hematuria and kidney disease progression, whereas hematuria remission was found to be related to improved kidney outcomes in IgAN among patients experiencing persistent proteinuria. In addition, promising potential of automated methods to assess hematuria was suggested as a substitute for manual evaluation of urinary sediment to monitor IgAN progression.
