Peritoneal carcinomatosis index as a predictor of diaphragmatic involvement in stage III and IV ovarian cancer

Llueca A, et al. - Researchers evaluated the surgical outcomes and diaphragmatic involvement in stage III and IV ovarian cancer. Findings suggested different tumour burden in stages III and IV of advanced ovarian cancer and an effective method to quantify it was the peritoneal carcinomatosis index (PCI). For the advanced stages of ovarian cancer, an independent prognostic factor was constituted by the PCI. For the affectation, a PCI >10 constituted a useful prognostic factor and the surgeon was forced to thoroughly review both diaphragms.
