Peripheral vein thrombophlebitis in the upper extremity: A systematic review of a frequent and important problem
American Journal of Medicine Dec 18, 2019
Heng SY, et al. - In this systematic review of 6,910 studies initially recognized, experts ascertained the predisposing patient, catheter, and healthcare-related factors of peripheral vein thrombophlebitis in the upper extremity. A total of 25 studies met the eligibility criteria. It was determined that identification of the predisposing factors would allow for targeted approaches to help in the prevention of this iatrogenic infection, which may involve closer monitoring of individuals who are recognized to be vulnerable. On the basis of this systematic review, an algorithm to guide clinical management was developed.
