Peripheral thyroid nodule calcifications on sonography: Evaluation of malignant potential
American Journal of Roentgenology Jun 14, 2019
Malhi HS, et al. - In this retrospective review, researchers evaluated the relationship of thyroid cancer with sonographic features of peripheral calcifications. Participants in the study were patients who had a total of 97 thyroid nodules with peripheral calcifications who had ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration from 2008 to 2018. According to findings, malignancy is strongly associated with peripheral rim calcifications. Specific peripheral calcification characteristics, however, do not help to distinguish between benign and malignant nodules, which can be caused in part by elevated interobserver variability.
