Perioperative outcomes and complications after primary total hip arthroplasty in patients with disproportionately short stature: A matched cohort analysis
Journal of Arthroplasty Oct 30, 2019
Anis HK, McConaghy KM, Charles RJ, et al. - Researchers used an institutional database and reviewed primary THA patients from 2012-2017 in order to compare short stature patients and matched control patients with respect to perioperative results, postoperative complications and reoperation rates following primary THA. Overall 47 patients and 57 patients included in the short stature cohort and in the control cohort, respectively, were examined and were followed-up for a minimum duration of 1 year. The two groups were compared in terms of operative times, lengths-of-stay (LOS), intra-operative fractures, minor complications, 90-day readmissions, and revisions. Findings revealed the presence of longer operative times and slight longer LOS in patients with disproportionately short stature, however, similar outcomes were reported with regard to complication and readmission rates.
