Perioperative mortality after cemented or uncemented hemiarthroplasty for displaced femoral neck fractures - A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 17, 2020
Fenelon C, Murphy EP, Pomeroy E, et al. - This systematic review was intended to assess perioperative mortality after hemiarthroplasty (HA) for displaced femoral neck fractures (FNF). Researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases assessing perioperative mortality after HA for displaced FNFs. This analysis enrolled a total of 22 studies including (seven randomized control trials and 15 observational studies), a total of 183,167 HAs for the treatment of a displaced FNF. The data demonstrate that CHA is correlated with an elevated mortality rate within the first two days of surgery with no variation at 7 days, 30 days, and one year. When planning HA for FNFs, surgeons should consider tailoring their stem choice based on the physiological status of the patient. Methods to decrease the risk of bone cement implantation syndrome should be applied.
