Perioperative management of direct oral anticoagulants in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy: Results of a prospective assessment
World Journal of Urology Feb 09, 2019
Beckmann A, et al. - Authors investigated 32 subjects to estimate the efficiency and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in subjects undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP). They restarted DOACs on the third postoperative day in about 94% candidates. They found no significant decline in hemoglobin level after DOAC restart. About 28% of individuals were recorded with minor complications (Clavien ≤ 2) within 30 days after surgery. They suggested that RP could be performed safely if DOACs were accurately discontinued before the surgery. Hence, they recommended its use as per the proper guidelines.
