Perioperative immunonutrition modulates inflammatory response after radical cystectomy: Results of a pilot randomized controlled clinical trial
The Journal of Urology Mar 11, 2018
Hamilton-Reeves JM, et al. - Taking into account the short lag time between diagnosis and radical cystectomy (RC), a short-term specialized immunonutrition (SIM) was compared to a standard oral nutrition supplement (ONS) on the acute inflammatory response and arginine status in RC patients. They noted that consuming SIM counteracted disrupted T-helper balance, lowered inflammatory response, and prevented arginine depletion from RC surgery as suggested by T-helper 1- T-helper 2 ratios, peak Interleukin- 6 levels, and plasma arginine.
