Jehan F, et al. - Researchers here determined the impact of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level on outcomes after emergency general surgery (EGS). Findings showed a four times higher risk of developing major complications after EGS among patients with HbA1c of 6.0% or greater and a postoperative random blood sugar (RBS) of 200 mg/dL or greater. Patients prone to develop postoperative hyperglycemia, regardless of their preoperative RBS could be stratified by using preoperative HbA1c level.
