Perioperative factors associated with changes in troponin T during coronary artery bypass grafting

Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Jul 27, 2019

Koppen E, et al. - In this prospective cohort study, researchers determined significant clinical and operative variables related to rises in cardiac troponin T (cTnT) as indicators of myocardial injury following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Participants were 626 patients undergoing isolated CABG from April 2008 through April 2010. From 2015-2017, a validation cohort with 686 patients was also included. The factors that were found to be related to the cTnT rise-and-fall pattern associated with myocardial injury post-CABG included left ventricular ejection fraction, New York Heart Association classification, kidney function, inflammation status, duration of cardiopulmonary bypass, body surface area, and preoperative myocardial infarction (MI). When using cTnT in the diagnostic workup of postoperative MI, it may be worthy to take information about these variables into account.
