Perioperative covert stroke in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery (NeuroVISION): A prospective cohort study

Mrkobrada M, Chan MTV, Cowan D, et al. - Through NeuroVISION—a prospective cohort study conducted in 12 academic centers in 9 countries, in which researchers evaluated 1,114 patients aged 65 years or older who underwent inpatient, elective, non-cardiac surgery and had brain MRI following surgery—experts examined the association between perioperative covert stroke and cognitive decline 1 year following surgery. Perioperative covert stroke was related to an increased risk of cognitive decline 1 year following non-cardiac surgery, and perioperative covert stroke happened in 1 in 14 patients aged 65 years and older who underwent non-cardiac surgery.
