Perioperative atrial fibrillation in non-cardiac surgeries for malignancies and one-year recurrence
Canadian Journal of Cardiology Jul 17, 2019
Higuchi S, et al. - Since perioperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in non-cardiac surgeries is common, researchers desired to know whether such atrial fibrillation (AF) recurs in the long-term. The study sample consisted of patients who had non-cardiac surgeries for malignancies. Based on the existence of POAF, incidences were compared. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that higher AF recurrence rate in POAF patients was linked to serum creatinine level and hypertension. According to this prospective, single-center, observational study, AF occurs in about 30% of malignant POAF patients in the following year and most recurrences are asymptomatic.
