Periodontitis as a risk factor for stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Vascular Health and Risk Management Nov 14, 2019
Fagundes NCF, et al. - In tis systematic review and meta-analysis, searches were carried out in five databases and two sources of grey literature in order to examine the correlation between periodontitis and stroke. A total of 2,193 potentially appropriate studies were recognized, with ten studies involved in qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results showed a positive relationship between both disorders and heightened risk for stroke among cohort studies and for ischemic stroke incidents in case–control studies. Moreover, periodontitis could present a risk factor for stroke, particularly in ischemic events. Nevertheless, for a trustworthy verdict, fresh studies with a strong design are needed.
