Journal of Clinical Periodontology Jun 29, 2018
Shariff JA, et al. - Authors assessed a cross-sectional study of the prevalence, extent and severity of periodontitis in a tri-ethnic cohort of ≥65 year-old participants of the Washington-Heights Inwood Community Aging Project (WHICAP). Higher prevalence, extent and severity of periodontitis was seen in this urban elderly sample vs the US national average, thereby, suggesting substantial unmet periodontal treatment needs. An association of male gender, being Black or Hispanic, and no dental visit within the prior year with a higher proportion of teeth with CAL ≥5 mm was seen in multivariable models.
