Periodic repolarization dynamics as a risk predictor after myocardial infarction: Prospective validation study
Heart Rhythm Mar 31, 2019
Rizas KD, et al. - Since increased periodic repolarization dynamics (PRD, an electrocardiographic phenomenon that refers to sympathetic activity-associated low-frequency modulations of cardiac repolarization) reflects an increased risk of consequent death in retrospective post-myocardial infarction (MI) studies, researchers performed this first prospective study in order to validate PRD in patients with MI taking current treatment. This investigation included 455 MI survivors (age ≤80 years) in sinus rhythm. A 2.2- and 9.5-fold risk of total mortality and cardiovascular mortality, respectively, was suggested with increased PRD in the multivariable analysis. Overall, in post-infarction patients treated with current therapy, total mortality and cardiovascular mortality were strongly as well as independently predicted by PRD.
