Pericarditis among giant cell arteritis patients: From myth to reality
Clinical Cardiology May 27, 2018
Tiosano S, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers assessed the link between giant cell arteritis (GCA) and pericarditis by utilizing the database of the largest healthcare provider in Israel. GCA was hypothesized to be associated with pericarditis. Patients diagnosed with GCA were compared with their age- and sex-matched controls in terms of the proportion of past documentation of pericarditis. Higher rates of cardiovascular risk factors were found in GCA patients. Findings demonstrated an independent link between GCA and pericarditis. This association was particularly observed among young patients. In patients with either disease, a suspicion for the existence of comorbidity was recommended to be followed by application of proper screening.
