Pericardial effusions in patients with cancer: anesthetic management and survival outcomes
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Sep 25, 2020
Chai CM, Seier K, Tan KS, et al. - This study was intended to present practice patterns of anesthetic management during pericardial window creation. Researchers conducted a retrospective observational cohort study including a sum of 150 patients treated for cancer between 2011 and 2015. Thirty-day mortality and overall survival after pericardial window creation were considered as secondary outcomes. It was shown that in patients with cancer, risk of death after pericardial window creation remains high. Changes in anesthetic management did not influence survival in oncologic individuals with pericardial effusions.
