Peri-operative considerations for sedation-analgesia during cataract surgery: A narrative review

Kumar CM, et al. - Since the provision of education, concerning the peri-operative process, to the patient undergoing cataract surgery may assist in relieving anxiety and preventing the requirement for sedation, researchers focused on peri-operative considerations for sedation-analgesia during cataract surgery in this narrative review. Owing to the risk of aspiration, the necessity of pre-operative fasting has been considered by many, however, there may be no need for fasting if minimal sedation is administered. In cases where a necessity of using sedatives, hypnotics or analgesics is realized, considering the adverse events associated with the use of these agents is recommended.
