Peri-articular soft-tissue envelope size and postoperative wound complications following total knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Mar 02, 2018
Yu S, et al. - In this study, researchers developed a reliable and accurate radiologic measurement to assess the peri-articular soft tissue index (PASTI) and, investigated whether it was related to postoperative wound complications following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and was more predictive than BMI alone. Findings suggested that in patients with high PASTI, more wound complications occurred, while no difference was noticed using BMI. However, BMI had traditionally approximated patient size but did not describe variations in body habitus. In order to assess the peri-articular soft tissue envelope size, which was associated with postoperative wound complications in the knee, PASTI was identified as a more reliable and direct way.
