Performance of MRI for suspected appendicitis in pediatric patients and negative appendectomy rate: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Aug 21, 2017
Kim JR, et al. – The aim of this work was to conduct a systematic review and meta–analysis to assess in pediatric patients the diagnostic performance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for suspected appendicitis and its negative appendectomy rate. As evidence accumulates, magnetic resonance imaging displays excellent diagnostic performance for appendicitis in pediatric patients regardless of the use of intravenous contrast media. Thus, nonenhanced–only MRI protocols might be appropriate for pediatric patients with suspected appendicitis.
