Perforator artery repair in revascularization of extremity degloving injuries
Injury Oct 31, 2019
Kabakaş F, et al. - Via this article, researchers sought to expand the microsurgical treatment alternatives for extremity degloving injuries with perforator artery repairs of the specific degloved angiosomes in upper and lower extremity. They repaired 14 perforator arteries in seven patients. Circumferential degloving injury was reported in four of these patients and non circumferential degloving injury was reported in three of these patients. Repair of the perforator arteries of the specific degloved segments was performed in all patients. Additional vein repairs were done in four patients but none of the patients had AV shunts. Outcomes revealed successful achievement of direct arterial supply within the degloved tissues in correlation to perforator artery repair; this could be achieved even if one could not find an intact venous plexus.
