Percutaneous coronary intervention vs coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with reduced ejection fraction

The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Sep 22, 2020

Bianco V, Kilic A, Mulukutla S, et al. - Researchers focused on comparative outcomes for PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) vs CABG (coronary artery bypass grafting) in patients with reduced ejection fraction (EF). Participants were recruited from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center from 2011-2018, and included all patients who experienced reduced preoperative EF (< 50%) and received CABG or PCI for coronary revascularization. Using propensity matching (1:1), patients were risk-adjusted. Long-term survival, readmission, and Major Adverse Cardiac and Cerebrovascular Events (MACCE) were the primary outcomes. According to the findings, significantly improved survival, lower MACCE, and fewer repeat revascularization procedures were observed in patients with reduced ejection fraction who received CABG vs those treated with PCI.
