De Rosa S, et al. - During this study, a comparative analysis was undertaken of the risks for recurrent cerebrovascular events in adults with patent foramen ovale (PFO) and cryptogenic stroke who underwent PFO closure vs those who received medical therapy alone. Prevention was achieved in recurrent stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) through PFO closure when compared with medical therapy. However, it increased the incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) or atrial flutter (AFL) in PFO carriers with cryptogenic stroke.
