Perceived triggers of asthma impair quality of life in children with asthma

Kansen HM, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis of 527 asthmatic children (7 to 18 years), researchers investigated how asthma-specific and generic health-related quality of life (HRQL) was influenced by perceived asthma triggers. They used the Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (score range 1 to 7) and the RAND questionnaire (score range 7 to 32) to evaluate asthma-specific HRQL and generic HRQL, respectively. Findings revealed a link between a higher number of perceived triggers of asthma and reduced HRQL in children with asthma. Reduced HRQL was observed in relation to non-allergic triggers, in particular.
