Perceived social support and depression symptoms in patients with major depressive disorder in Taiwan: An association study
Archives of Psychiatric Nursing Jul 01, 2020
Shih TY, Cheng SL, Chang SH, et al. - This study was intended to assess whether social support is associated with depressive symptoms of inpatients with major depressive disorder. Researchers enrolled a sum of 160 inpatients from the acute psychiatric ward of a medical center in northern Taiwan between July 1, 2015, and December 31, 2016. The descriptive statistics, simple linear regression and multiple linear regression were applied to examine data. The data demonstrated that the patient depression level is significantly correlated with gender, age, marital status, education, occupation and number of admissions due to depression. Significant associations were found between social support, marital status, and the number of admissions due to depression. These outcomes could serve as a reference for the clinical practice of clinical specialists and argue for the inclusion of social support as an intervention for patients with depression.
